Mark Khaisman at Speer Gallery
A Sticky Muse: Mark Khaisman’s muse is his medium. The artist who has proven that duct tape can be as versatile and beautiful as it is useful as a packing agent is showing this January at Shipley’s Speer Gallery in Bryn Mawr. Khaisman, who was born in Kiev, studied art and architecture in Moscow before coming to the States. He lives and works in Philadelphia and has shown recently at the Science Museum in London (2011), Istanbul, Barcelona, and Pentimenti Gallery, Duke Gallery, Crane Arts and Fleisher here in Philadelphia. Khaisman’s opening at Speer Gallery will be held the evening of Thursday, January 19 on the main campus of The Shipley School, 814 Yarrow Street, Bryn Mawr. Below: Khaisman installations range in their scope and style; utilizing spaces, self-devised suspension and lighting systems, and imaginative and evocative images that reinterpret familiar forms and motifs in the medium he has claimed as his own.
