EXCURSUS: CINÉ TRACTS

Join UC Berkeley PhD candidate Erica Levin for a screening and discussion of the revolutionary potential of image and text in short silent ciné-tracts produced in the wake of May 1968 by filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard, Chris Marker, and Alain Resnais.

Excursus is a new initiative at the ICA in which artists, designers, publishers, and other cultural producers are invited to create a platform for more intimate programming, alongside an online residency at icaphila.org/excursus.

PEOPLE'S CONFERENCE PEOPLE’S CONFERENCE

ICA is pleased to host the People’s Conference in conjunction with the People’s Biennial exhibition currently on view at the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, Whitehead Campus Center at Haverford College (370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford) through March 2, 2012. This two-day conference has been organized to delve deeper into questions about regionalism, display, and structures of support for under-recognized artists in ways that push the boundaries of curatorial, artistic, and institutional innovation.

People’s Biennial co-curators Harrell Fletcher and Jens Hoffmann reflect on the process of making the first People’s Biennial, as well as its potential for future iterations. Moderated by Renaud Proch, Deputy Director, Independent Curators International.

This day-long conversation proposes a question in two parts: How can one contextualize and display art that exists outside the norms of the mainstream art world in an innovative manner, and how can structures of display be transformed into ongoing systems of support for artists? Moderated by People’s Biennial co-curators Harrell Fletcher and Jens Hoffmann.
